What AVTweeps are thankful for in 2021As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., I sat down to reflect on what I’m thankful for this year. And, as always, it’s #AVTweeps.

It made my heart so incredibly happy to see so many of my AV friends at InfoComm this year in Orlando. Throughout the pandemic, we’ve been using technology to keep in touch, but that was nothing compared to being able to hang out in person — whether it was catching up at events like the Almo 75th Anniversary Celebration at Seaworld or talking tech on the show floor. Side note: you can see all of rAVe’s images from InfoComm 2021 here.

I also asked some of our AV friends what they’re thankful for; as you’d expect, many of them were grateful for the people in this industry. Read on to see what they had to say…

Mark Roslon, Director of Product Management, Commercial Displays, Epson America

As 2021 ends, all of us at Epson are incredibly thankful first and foremost for the health of our family, friends and loved ones. We all know the importance of that. Secondly, we are grateful for the ongoing support of our partners and customers. 2021 has delivered its own set of challenges, yet our partners have risen to the occasion and continue to create amazing projects. We’re looking forward to the opportunities that 2022 will bring.

Jess Rhoades, UCC Program Manager, AVI-SPL

I’m thankful for the catalyst this ongoing pandemic has been for change and growth — individually, culturally and within our industry. For myself, my self-awareness and emotional capacity have expanded, I’ve built stronger relationships, and gained clarity about my vision. Culturally, I’ve witnessed increased empathy and awareness and better conversation about social justice. Our industry has experienced an awakening to our weaknesses, with the global supply chain challenges and the shift to remote and hybrid work. I’m very hopeful for a future where our industry has evolved, and our society can finally break down its systemic barriers.

Rachael Harris, Sr. Infrastructure Engineer, American Express

There is so much to be thankful for this year. Having the opportunity to attend InfoComm live and in-person was one of the highlights of the year for me. I appreciated the opportunity to meet and finally greet so many of the friends and colleagues that I have gotten to know through computer screens over the last two years. I think that experience speaks to the general theme of gratitude that streams through 2021 for me. I have enjoyed watching the world and the industry expand back into occupying real-world space and I am looking forward to finding out what next year has in store for us all.

Gina Sansivero, VP of Marketing and Communications, AtlasIED

This year, I am thankful for all the incredible women in AV and lady leaders out there who are my mentors, inspiration and support group. Without knowing it, they have helped pick me up when imposter syndrome becomes overwhelming. They have helped motivate me when balance seems unobtainable. And they are such a strong network of positivity and compassion, urging me to be kind to myself when 2021 threw so many challenges our way. It’s one of the reasons we decided to support the Girl Boss series — there are so many women who should be blessed with the kind of incredible and strong females I have in my life. Girl Boss is a way to help educate, support and encourage confidence in those who need it.

Christopher Anderson, Audio/Visual Manager, Georgia Aquarium

This year continues to be a challenging year for everyone. Although we’re in our second year of the pandemic, it continues to alter our lives. Throughout all the things that have happened, I’m thankful for the ability to adapt. We learned to make the necessary adjustments to survive. Not only survival for our lives, but for our businesses as well. Whether working from home, virtual meetings or a smaller staff, we have all shown the ability to adapt and I’m thankful for that.

Jenna Dexter, Marketing Director, Jetbuilt

I am thankful for so many things this year! I thank God for a fantastic job at a company that grew in the face of a pandemic. I’m blessed with an incredible family, including (but not limited to) my most extraordinary girls and the best parents ever (not even kidding!). I’m thankful for my spunky Mini Cooper, Lucy Blue, and the twisty roads I drive her on. And for the 3 Cs … coffee, chocolate and my fabulous cat.

Mark Coxon, Western Regional Sales Director, HD Distributing

This year, I’m thankful for continued opportunities to learn and grow. I’m thankful to be back in a company that is AV first. I’m thankful to work with good hearted, ethical people who love our industry and value relationships. Most of all, I’m thankful for industry friends (you know who you are) who have always offered a hand throughout my journey. Have a blessed holiday #AVTweeps!

Katie Rogina, Marketing Manager, Spinitar

Living in a world of so much unknown, there’s one thing I know for sure — I am beyond thankful for the people in my life. People who have helped shape who I am today, and who I want to be tomorrow. From my family and friends to my fellow peers and colleagues, I’ve been blessed with an enormous amount of love, laughter, and support throughout my years, all of which I will forever be grateful for.

Beth Warren, SVP Marketing and Retail Practice, Creative Realities
