TASCAM Releases TASCAM Audio File Manager Software
TASCAM has introduced TASCAM Audio File Manager, a free software application designed to help field and multitrack recordists organize, review, and edit their recordings efficiently. The software enables users to quickly confirm audio content, manage recordings, and streamline the transition to the next stage of production. At its core, TASCAM Audio File Manager is a file browser that displays the waveform of every file in a selected library, along with a range of additional features.
The software’s waveform display allows users to zoom in and out, providing a detailed view of audio peaks, pops, and potential issues. This visual confirmation helps users identify sonic imperfections that may need correction.
TASCAM Audio File Manager includes basic editing tools such as Copy, Cut, and Paste, as well as Mute and Normalize functions for fine-tuning recordings. To simplify file organization, the software offers batch renaming and the ability to add prefixes to multiple files simultaneously, which is particularly useful for renaming large numbers of recordings captured in the field (e.g., Location_TakeNumber_Date.wav).
The software enables users to transfer files to network drives or cloud storage services, including AWS and Dropbox, making it easy to share recordings with collaborators.
In addition to editing, TASCAM Audio File Manager supports multi-channel playback of TASCAM-formatted audio files using its integrated mixer. It is compatible with standard mono .wav files and poly .wav files, commonly found on SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards. Poly .wav files contain multitrack recordings in a single file that expand into individual tracks when opened in a DAW, allowing for greater flexibility in post-production.
The software supports sampling frequencies from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz and bit depths including 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit float, and 32-bit integer. It is available for both Windows and macOS.
TASCAM Audio File Manager is compatible with a variety of audio file formats, ensuring versatility for different projects. Supported formats include:
- WAV, MP3, AIFF, AIFC, SD2, MP2, MPEG-4, and M4A
