Wireless Technologies has been around since 1896 when Guglielmo Marconi developed the first wireless telegraph system.  These systems have increased in both complexity and also reliability.  Imagine our world without wireless. . . I know, I can’t either. We all benefit from a multitude of technologies that span generations of folks back to Marconi.  Before Marconi, many others viewed this technology, but to some it was considered heresy — something to be afraid of and definitely not embraced.

I first became aware of a gentleman named Alessandro Volta in 8th grade when I did a report on him.  He was a simply a brilliant guy.  I consider him a father of many of our electro-acoustic devices we have today.   He understood principles of voltage, current, and impedance and experimented with all these phenomena.  One experiment he did that particularly intrigued me was electrochemical.  He introduced and discovered the first battery.

Gentleman like this gave me an interest in what I do now – AV.  As I’ve considered the genius of Alessandro Volta, I wondered what he’d think of our world today.  RF environments so crowded that we have to allocate space with a federal agency!  Over the years we’ve all gone through the headaches and struggles that the white spaces issue created.   Over this period of time, I’ve often wondered why we don’t use spread spectrum technologies more often.  There are arguments for and against this issue.  The simple fact is that spread spectrum technology is used everywhere around you.   It is expensive to deploy, sometimes difficult to miniaturize, and can cause undesirable effects on equipment.  I would love to see more people in our industry adopt this technology as I find it extremely useful.  Just ask the military, they use it every day.
