Sonos and IKEA Finally Debut Speaker-Furniture Lineup

The collaboration between Sonos and IKEA to design furniture with built-in Sonos audio has finally officially debuted. And, although it isn’t shipping until August, it’s one of the most highly anticipated whole-home audio launches in a decade. Sonos has collaborated with IKEA on SYMFONISK, a range of speakers designed to “democratize the home sound system.”

The SYMFONISK line starts with a table lamp with a built-in Sonos speaker and a bookshelf Sonos speaker that can be converted to a wall-mount speaker that’s designed to look like a piece of furniture-based artwork. The bookshelf speaker, called KUNGFORS, can be mounted with the rail (or with a rack to use it as a shelf), or users can hide it away on a bookshelf. Pair two for stereo separation, and use them as home theater surrounds with Sonos Beam, Playbar or Playbase. The lamp conceals a speaker with a sound profile similar to Sonos One. Pair two for stereo sound and use them as home theater surrounds with Sonos Beam, Playbar, or Playbase. The table lamp will retail for about $199 U.S. and the bookshelf speaker for about $120. In Europe, SYMFONISK table lamp speaker is €179 and the SYMFONISK book-shelf speaker is €99.95.

Of course, both pieces integrate into an existing Sonos system or can be integrated into a new one — or used stand-alone.
