Some People Plan, others just DO

There are few things I have observed in life that strike a more delicate balance than that of planning and execution. Depending on
which hyped up book you’ve just read or seminar you’ve just attended you could be very well be praising one and cursing the other. Two
weeks later, the next guru will come along and say the exact opposite. What is going on here? There seem to be two polar opposite viewpoints
on the subject. Truth is there are two different types of people with these types of views.

People who Plan
You’ve met the type before. Before doing anything they want to know exactly what is going to happen and how everything can come together.
This isn’t even AV or business related but in everyday life, planners just can’t stop planing. Now there is nothing WRONG with having a
plan, but I fear that some people can take this too far and get wrapped up simply planning things. Anticipating events that are purely
hypothetical can be helpful at times, but also have the potential to bring any progress to a halt.

People who Do
On the opposite side of the ring are people who with reckless abandon just jump into things and get going. For this person, the thrill of
getting moving on something is addictive – just make things happen who cares about details? Any issues will get figured out eventually,
right? It can be hard to pull back the reigns working with someone like this, as they don’t like to be bogged down with decisions before
they are absolutely required.

Do you see the Problem?
With planning and execution, being too concerned on either side can result in a range from lack of productivity all the way down to
complete failure to accomplish anything. Finding a balance point between the two will allow you to approach new situations and projects
with a more comprehensive set of tools to get the job done. Being aware of these different viewpoints can really help you navigate the
challenges of working effectively with others. (who may be the same or completely opposite from yourself)

Find What Works For You
Depending on your own personality and skill set, the proper balance point can be tough to find. Despite the challenge, I do believe it is
possible to find what works for you. Making a conscious effort for personal growth in this area can lead to huge improvements in your
overall effectiveness.
