Problem-Solving in Virtual Production
Now that virtual production has become a mainstream workflow, the industry needs to closely examine some of the structural problems that still exist in the areas of color, audio, interoperability, business model, and the umbrella concern for it all, educating competent talent adequately. Attendees will hear from industry experts and educators on what solutions already exist or are around the corner. This session will talk in some detail about how and what can be done to ensure greater proliferation of virtual production in the film and entertainment industry.
“Virtual production has seen some major successes in the breadth and quality of images that we have been able to create with significant ease,” said Vice President, Business Head, Chief Technology Officer, Head of Emerging Media at Whistling Woods International and SMPTE Governor-at-Large Chaitanya Chinchlikar. “At the same time, we have seen some VP stages shut down within a few months of operations. Further, we have also had a situation where filmmakers — especially DOPs, directors, and producers — have now started demanding more perfection. Color, interoperability, production decision-making, and the VP business model are some of these areas where more work is needed. The SMPTE panel on virtual production at IBC2024 will bring in industry experts from Kinoflo, VU Studios, Film Engineers, and Mo-Sys to talk about how to take virtual production to the next level of efficiency. Along with all this, experts will also talk about how virtual production needs to become an inalienable part of film education.”
