Sennheiser MKH 8018 Stereo Shotgun Mic Tailored for Sports and Broadcast Applications

Sennheiser

Sennheiser has introduced the MKH 8018, a compact stereo shotgun microphone built for broadcast and sports applications. Completing the MKH 8000 range of RF condenser microphones, the MKH 8018 is engineered for rugged, field-ready performance with natural sound capture and minimal off-axis coloration.

The lightweight mic offers three switchable stereo modes: MS stereo, wide XY, and narrow XY. MS mode allows flexible spatial imaging during mixing, while XY modes are pre-mixed in the microphone. Housed in lightweight aluminum, the MKH 8018 is ideal for use on camera rigs or boom poles.

Unlike other modular 8000 Series models, the MKH 8018 features a fixed XLR-5M output, an integrated -10 dB pad, frequency tailoring filters, and a switchable -3 dB low-cut filter at 70 Hz to prevent overdriving. The mic’s frequency response is limited to 40 Hz – 20 kHz, optimizing it for modern broadcasting by eliminating inaudible frequencies that could interfere with ultrasonic equipment.
