Ross Announces Huge Features Gains for Carbonite Ultra Production Switcher

carboniteultraOttawa, Canada, April 30th 2020 – As part of the Ross Live | 2020 program, Ross is today pleased to announce a significant update for the Carbonite Ultra production switcher that brings massive feature additions and offers customers even more flexibility and convenience.

The forthcoming V4 update includes support for all different frame rates and sees the addition of adjustable delays on all frame-synched inputs in HD and UHD. Similarly, the new update will offer Wide Color Gamut and HDR conversion in HD as well as UHD. In a significant move, Ross is also adding the RAVE audio engine (first seen in the Graphite integrated solution) to the Carbonite Ultra switcher. This will give customers access to 13 x 48 stereo channel mixers and 384 external audio channels (24 SDI inputs x 16 audio signals) as well as 10 internal inputs (media stores and Carbonite Ultra’s internal clip player) and all of the compression limiting and EQ functionality within the engine. Up to 3 RAVE ABU breakout boxes will be supported, and the engine will offer Sample Rate Conversion for all frame synchs. The RAVE engine will be made available as a license (US$ 2000 list price) or will be included without charge with every purchase of a RAVE ABU breakout box.

Commenting on the announcement, Nigel Spratling, VP of Switchers & Servers at Ross, points to the benefits this huge update will bring. “This new version adds an impressive amount of horsepower to what was already a very rich feature set. Customers can now manage multi-channel, multi-language audio production with ease, as well as output mix minuses for talent monitoring – all directly from within the production switcher.”

Finally, the new V4 update sees the addition of configurable 3D borders within DVEs. “This is a really cool new feature that I don’t think customers will expect,” notes Spratling. “We’re offering a range of border styles and shapes, as well as powerful lighting and shadow effects – all with Z axis perspective – people are going to love it!”
