Immersive Audio Takes ‘The Moon Cruise’ VR Experience to New Heights in Tokyo

The Moon Cruise,” a permanent VR installation inside Tokyo’s Space Travelium TeNQ, gives visitors the chance to walk on the moon — complete with the bone-rattling sensation of a rocket launch. The experience uses Powersoft’s compact Mover transducers, along with Quattrocanali and Duecanali amplifiers, to turn audio into a powerful, synchronized tactile experience.

Developed by STYLY Inc. and integrated by Audio Visual Communications Ltd., The Moon Cruise takes guests on a free-roaming journey through space, allowing them to explore the lunar surface, take photos, and experience the Earth from orbit.

A major challenge for the team was simulating the physical impact of a rocket launch without bulky motion platforms. Powersoft’s Mover transducers offered a lightweight, low-maintenance solution that uses haptic feedback and bone conduction to convert sound into physical vibration.

“Traditional platforms weren’t viable in this space,” said Tsuyoshi Nomura, executive officer at STYLY Inc. “We achieved a realistic and safe experience by pairing newly designed fixtures with Powersoft’s Mover.”

The installation uses five Mover ID transducers embedded in bench seating, powered by Quattrocanali 1204 DSP and Duecanali 804 DSP amplifiers supplied by Powersoft’s Japanese distributor, Audiobrains. The transducers sync with BEC IC-120 speakers to deliver ultra-low frequencies that replicate the force and rumble of liftoff.

“Vibration and sound are inseparable,” said Nomura. “The Mover, vibrating in sync with the sound source, makes it feel as if you’re truly launching into space.”

Ken Yamada, deputy general manager at Audio Visual Communications, added that Powersoft’s gear outperformed competitors in testing, offering stronger bone conduction effects and support for sub-harmonics essential to simulating rocket propulsion.

The experience focuses on the journey to the moon—both visual and sensory. “By designing a powerful departure sequence, the moonwalk that follows feels more real, even without physical interaction,” said Nomura.

From liftoff to lunar landing, The Moon Cruise creates an unforgettable multi-sensory journey, proving how immersive audio and thoughtful design can bring space exploration closer to Earth.
