PowerShades, a provider of both manual and automated window shades, is offering automated shades powered by its patented TruePoE motor.

The company, a subsidiary of Springs Window Fashions, stated that its new TruePoE motor builds on the strengths of its existing PoE platform while addressing limitations found in traditional PoE and AC-powered shading systems.

PowerShades identified multiple features that it said are upgrades from the traditional Power-over-Ethernet and AC-powered shading solutions.According to PowerShades, TruePoE draws less than five watts per shade compared to the 25-50 watts required by competing shades.

With 6Nm of torque, TruePoE motors support custom shade sizes up to 19 feet, depending on fabric weight and thickness.

Unlike many products that claim PoE compatibility, PowerShades says TruePoE shades connect directly to standard PoE network switches — no injectors or costly translators required.

Other advantages listed by the company include how TruePoE shades appear instantly on the network and can be controlled via the PowerShades Dashboard and mobile app. Advanced networking features include VLAN tagging support, IPv6 readiness, and a built-in web server for configuration, diagnostics, and limit setting directly through a browser.

PowerShades also says that the new shades retain all the advantages of its original PoE platform and that installation does not require a licensed electrician or special certifications.

Users retain access to PowerShades’ full automation system, including cloud connectivity for smartphone, tablet and PC control. Customers can add a TruePoE motor to any new PowerShades indoor product, and all shades are fully customized.

PowerShades’ TruePoE automated shades integrate with leading home and commercial automation platforms, including Amazon Alexa, Bond Bridge, RTI, Google Home, SmartThings, Crestron, ELAN, Control4 and URC.
