New Media Engine player range running on Android released by digital signage hardware manufacturer AOPEN
Amsterdam, 4 February 2015: AOPEN launches a new media player range called Media Engine. AOPEN specializes in small form factor applied computing technology providing durable digital signage and multimedia solutions for AV and System Integrators.
The Media Engine product line is an Android based media player range, with SoC (System on Chip) architecture, accommodating a thin device that is easily integrated into any scenario. It is designed for long term continuous use. The first model that has now been released to the market is the AOPEN Media Engine MEP320.
AOPEN chose to add the Media Engine platform to its market leading Digital Engine media player range. The reason for adding this platform to our portfolio is simple, says Jack Chou General Manager Europe at AOPEN. “Our customers demand more as computing technology evolves and software development on different types of operating systems are being designed, therefore we innovate through customer demand.”
AOPEN has the skill base to aid our partners to transition to Android and offers support on the Android platform. All the device drivers on the MEP320 have been made open source, so development on this platform has been made easy for our partners. “It’s important for AOPEN to collaborate with its partners to build better tools for everyone and gain mutual success by providing upstream open source services”, says Jack Chou.

Thanks to the Android operating system (OS), this player sets itself apart as an entry model. It is extremely thin and small in size, so it can easily be hidden behind a screen, kiosk or in a small enclosure. This media player is able to withstand temperatures up to 50 degrees and will be available for at least two years. This versatile device is ideal for the digital signage market or other verticals.
Media Engine MEP320 key features:

AOPEN works closely with specialists in the digital signage industry to get the most out of the hardware. “We understand that the collaboration between hardware and software is crucial for a successful digital signage deployment, hence we provide leading software companies with our hardware for testing purposes and certification. This also helps us improve our product line; since we are the manufacturer we have full control to change elements when needed,” says Jack Chou.
