New McIntosh Labs MIP200 Power Controller Debuts

ss

McIntosh announced the launch of the MIP200 Power Controller to protect HomeAV systems from a surge, a lightning strike, overvoltage incident or brownout. The MIP200 Power Controller is engineered with AC power protection using a thermally-protected metal-oxide varistor (TPMOV) that it says outperforms standard MOVs by eliminating common failure modes. It also includes electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering and programmable over/under voltage protection. When unsafe voltage levels are detected, the MIP200 automatically shuts off the outlets, only restoring power once conditions are safe — offering peace of mind and precision control over the system’s power supply.

The MIP200 accommodates various global power standards, featuring either 4 Type B1 (NEMA 5-15R) outlets with 2 receptacles each, or 4 Type F1 (CEE 7/3 or “Schuko”) outlets with 1 receptacle each. An always-on, unswitched outlet ensures continuous power to critical components, while other outlets can be managed via the front panel, remote operation through the rear panel Power Control or RS232 ports, or configured as additional always-on outlets. With programmable delays for each outlet, the MIP200 minimizes inrush current, ensuring a safe startup for all connected devices and providing reduced risk of tripping circuit breakers.

The front panel of the MIP200 features an AC line monitor that provides real-time data on input voltage, current draw, and total apparent power, ensuring that users have precise control over the system’s power supply. Encased in McIntosh’s iconic black glass front panel with aluminum trim, illuminated logo, and aluminum control knobs, the MIP200 is not only a robust power controller but also a statement of luxury and sophistication.
