National TV Safety Day

ultra-slim-mountsDid you know every three weeks in the United States, a child dies from a television tipping over? Did you know that every 45 minutes, a child is injured because of a television tipping over? Unfortunately, this is a reality, but one that is completely preventable.

Peerless-AV is proud to support National TV Safety Day on January 31, the day before Super Bowl XLIX.  We’re providing some simple tips and tricks you can use to ensure your house is safe for adults and children alike.

Secure your TV

If you have an older CRT television, or even a heavier flat panel, be sure to place it on a low, stable piece of furniture that is appropriate for the TV’s size and weight.

Recycle your old TV

Old televisions should be recycled and not discarded in the trash – and Greener Gadgets is making it easier than ever.  Simply visit www.greenergadgets.com to find an electronics recycling outlet near you.

Secure your flat panel TV

While a new big screen may not weigh as much as its CRT forbearer, if it falls from, say a set of drawers, that falling weight can prove deadly.  Wall mounting is the safest option to prevent a TV tip over. Ensure you’re selecting a mount that has an independent safety certification such as those with UL, CSA or ETL ratings.
