Moving, AV Style
As some of you know, I am moving this weekend. Since it’s just a couple of exits up the beautiful Merritt Parkway, I’m doing most of it myself, although yesterday I pressed a good friend into service moving the heavy stuff with me.
But it is a true audiovisual move. Not only do I have a basement full of antique, obsolete, or just-too-interesting-to-throw-away audiovisual gear, but I have half a truckload of cable to go with it. Even the rest of my belongings show the effects of nearly 30 years in the audiovisual industry. For instance, about half of what I own is packed in road cases. Even that which is packed in boxes is tied together with lengths of 18-2 I didn’t need anymore. And the most memorable line from the move is “watch out for the magic lantern!”
My defense for the collection is one which was a favorite of my predecessor in our business. Thomas Edison said to be an inventor you need a great imagination and a huge pile of junk.
I believe.
