Matrox Debuts 4K H.264 Streaming Encoder in EDGE

Matrox Video today launched Matrox Monarch EDGE, a 4K and HD, low-latency encoder for webcasting and remote integration (REMI) applications. An H.264 encoder that is capable of delivering resolutions up to 3840x2160p60 or quad 1920x1080p60 at 4:2:2 10-bit color, it can handle 3G/12G-SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 over 25 GbE connectivity and support RTMP, SRT, MPEG-2 and RTSP.

Monarch EDGE’s H.264 encoding capabilities leverage over-the-top (OTT) services to deliver specialized web content. Broadcasters can expand their reach beyond traditional linear programming by using the latest in webcasting apps — such as high-frame rate (HFR) 4K, 4K 360 VR and multi-camera selection — to stream compelling live content to laptops/desktops, smartphones, tablets and TVs.

Monarch EDGE allows broadcasters to produce live, multi-camera sporting events and includes both a 4:2:0 8-bit encoder model and a higher-end 4:2:2 10-bit-capable encoder version.

The contribution- or mezzanine-level encoding capabilities of Monarch EDGE provide broadcasters with a means to add additional or complementary backhaul feeds, or redundant contribution channels to their primary feeds. This small-footprint appliance with a tiny power envelop delivers four channels of 4:2:2 10-bit, broadcast-quality streams. Monarch EDGE also has enough encoding horsepower to generate simultaneous low-bitrate 4:2:0 proxy streams for each input, which can be monitored by any device on the network.

Here are the specs.
