Magnetar announced that its new MKII Series universal media players, the UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII, are now shipping to dealers, integrators and enthusiasts. First previewed at CEDIA Expo 2025, the updated models build on the company’s earlier UDP900 and UDP800 players with refinements across audio, video processing, mechanical design and connectivity.

Both MKII models support a full range of physical and digital formats, including 4K, UHD, Blu-ray, SACD and networked media. A revised proprietary processing engine is designed to improve color accuracy, contrast and noise handling while delivering more consistent upscaling performance. Audio stages have also been reworked for cleaner signal paths, reduced distortion and improved reproduction of high-resolution content.

Connectivity updates include new USB 3.0 ports with isolated power supplies and dedicated hub chips for greater stability with external devices. A redesigned, sound-dampened optical mechanism aims to improve disc-read accuracy, and both models use reinforced aluminum chassis construction with dual-layer shielding for improved EMI suppression.

The UDP900MKII serves as the flagship of the series, incorporating dual ESS 9038 PRO DACs and TMDS retiming on the dedicated HDMI audio output to minimize jitter. The player supports XMOS USB audio playback up to 768 PCM and 512 DSD and adds expanded networking capabilities intended for advanced installations.

The UDP800MKII carries many of the same engineering principles into a more accessible platform. Its reworked 2.0 audio design uses seven OPA1602 op-amps to create a low-noise analog path, while enhanced EMI shielding, refined chassis damping and improvements to the disc mechanism and internal wiring aim to deliver more stable performance. Magnetar positions the UDP800MKII as a step-up option for users seeking reference-level playback without moving to the flagship tier.

The UDP900MKII is priced at $3,299.99 and the UDP800MKII at $1,799.99, available through Magnetar and its authorized dealer network. To coincide with initial availability, Magnetar is offering introductory Black Friday pricing of $2,999.99 for the UDP900MKII and $1,599.99 for the UDP800MKII.
