Macnica Weaves Diverse Pathways to Standards-Based Interoperability at NAB Show 2023

Macnica M2S Streaming Kit

SOLANA BEACH, CALIFORNIA, March 27, 2023 — Macnica will come to NAB Show 2023 next month with two specific missions: to communicate the expanded integration and use case possibilities that come with blending two industry standards. Macnica will also demonstrate how its new media streaming software development kit, the M2S SDK, broadens the content contribution and distribution spectrum for media and entertainment companies.

At Booth C1919, Macnica will showcase several demonstrations that show a full range of transport solutions for networks from 1Gb to 100Gb using Macnica’s full suite of SoC, SoM and pure software solutions, including the M2S SDK. Macnica will also share educational insights about how using components built with open standards enable innovation for product developers and end users. One topic will be how the convergence of SMPTE ST 2110 with the emerging IPMX set of standards can unleash a wider universe of media workflows. SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX share many attributes, though IPMX enables new opportunities for sharing content in more cost-efficient ways, including the ability to work with asynchronous sources.

“Macnica sits at the intersection of where content producers create and where broadcasters and media companies receive and share content,” said Andrew Starks, Director of Product Development, Macnica. “Our SMPTE 2110 and IPMX components enable video and audio transport of varied bandwidth over IP networks and now extend connections to the cloud, a logical next step for Macnica. Given our place in the ecosystem, we can clearly communicate how weaving these standards and components will create more opportunities to reduce costs, increase revenues, and drive broader interoperability and interaction through to the consumer.”

Macnica will unveil a powerful new demonstration that shows various inputs and outputs that orchestrate combined, latency-free SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX workflows from live production to presentation. The demo includes a new integration of an Intel N6000 100GbE SmartNIC with the API for Macnica’s M2S SDK. The result is a “multi-gig production workflow demo” that shows the full range of Macnica’s SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX technologies working together.

“We will show how SMPTE 2110 and IPMX systems can feed UHD 4K60 video to each other with JPEG-XS compression, and how users can blend everything together in ways that serve current and emerging use cases in our industry,” said Starks. “That includes various live and remote production scenarios where it becomes simpler and less expensive to share content and connect with viewers. For example, the support for asynchronous sources within the IPMX structure means that computer platforms once deemed too risky for time-sensitive, mission-critical broadcast operations can now be used to build simpler, easier-to-deploy systems that are also more budget-friendly for scaling. That includes deploying our M2S SDK to bring traditional broadcast delivery systems together with more OTT services, and remove the expense and complications of making those connections.”

Macnica will also show its flagship MPA1000 module, ME10 SoC solution, and IPMX Product Development Kit with open APIs as part of their standards-based technology demonstrations. NAB Show 2023 takes place April 16-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
