LG Expands Google Cast Capability to Existing Pro:Centric Hotel TVs

LG Electronics USA is extending Google Cast functionality to hundreds of thousands of its earlier-generation Pro:Centric webOS 5 hotel TVs and set-top boxes through a free firmware upgrade, the company announced at The Hospitality Show 2025 in Denver. The update expands LG’s integrated streaming portfolio and enables hotels to provide in-room casting without adding external hardware or replacing existing displays.
The new firmware applies to 2020–2023 webOS 5 Pro:Centric models, including the US670H, US770H and UR770H series televisions, as well as the STB-6500 smartbox. Once installed, guests can securely cast movies, music and other content from Android or iOS devices to the in-room TV by scanning a QR code and connecting through their personal devices.
“The availability of this new firmware upgrade underscores LG’s ongoing commitment to protect the investment our customers make in LG display technology and solutions,” said Jake Benner, senior director of hospitality at LG Electronics USA. “We believe our ability to extend Google Cast functionality to previous-generation hotel TVs is unique and likely to be unmatched by other manufacturers.”
The rollout allows systems integrators to manage the upgrade with minimal downtime or disruption to guest services. LG said the process is designed to be fast and seamless, helping hotels modernize their entertainment offerings while maintaining operational efficiency.
Google Cast integration complements existing Apple AirPlay support already available on both earlier webOS 5 and current webOS 23 Pro:Centric smart TVs. Together, these casting options allow guests to securely stream personal content using familiar mobile platforms.
LG’s Pro:Centric platform provides a customizable interface and content management ecosystem for hospitality applications, offering cloud-based and on-premises tools for system control, branding and guest engagement. It also supports integration with third-party in-room entertainment apps and property management systems.
“Our goal is to make hotel guest experiences smarter and simpler,” Benner said. “This free firmware upgrade adds Google Cast to existing webOS 5 Pro:Centric TVs, so hotels can offer seamless in-room streaming while protecting their technology investments and ensuring smooth operations for staff and guests alike.”
LG is showcasing its latest hospitality technologies, including the expanded casting capability, at Booth #1237 during The Hospitality Show 2025 at the Colorado Convention Center.
