L-Acoustics has announced an investment in French startup MagREEsource, securing exclusive partner rights in the professional audio industry for the company’s sustainable rare earth magnet technology.
The partnership gives L-Acoustics access to European-sourced neodymium magnets, which are critical to loudspeaker manufacturing, and introduces a circular economy model aimed at reducing environmental impact. According to the company, MagREEsource’s proprietary technology enables the recovery and reuse of neodymium magnets from sources such as loudspeakers, electric vehicle motors, and wind turbine generators.
L-Acoustics said the magnets produced using recycled material generate significantly less carbon dioxide and require less water than those made using newly extracted resources. The company cited figures from MagREEsource showing a 91% reduction in carbon emissions and an 86% reduction in water usage per kilogram of magnet produced.
The agreement is part of L-Acoustics’ ongoing efforts to improve sustainability and diversify its supply chain for critical components.
