Kenyon College, a liberal arts institution in Gambier, Ohio, recently expanded its campus with the addition of three multi-story buildings as part of its West Quad development. The new academic, administrative and library buildings include more than 100 classrooms and meeting spaces equipped with advanced audiovisual systems.

Designed by NV5 and integrated by Radiant Technology, the AV systems use Extron technologies throughout. Each room features one or more computers, video projection systems or large displays, and multiple AV connection points. Many spaces also include document cameras, Apple TVs with screen casting, webcams, optical media players and Smart Pen displays. Select rooms are equipped for lecture capture and streaming.

AV over IP connectivity is provided through Extron’s NAV Pro system, enabling signal distribution within and between rooms. The NAV encoders and decoders are installed throughout the spaces to accommodate evolving learning configurations and overflow requirements. Content is distributed at native resolution to each display.

“We determined that AV over IP using Extron’s NAV system was the right solution for this particular project and client,” said Jesse Fishman, CTS-D, DSCE, senior systems designer at NV5. “Implementing NAV systems throughout the academic, administrative, and library buildings for classrooms, meeting rooms, and general-purpose spaces made the most sense.”

Additional Extron components include DTP CrossPoint matrix switchers for local switching, DMP Plus Series DSP processors, and XPA Series amplifiers. TouchLink Pro touchpanels and IP Link Pro processors provide control across the systems, while TouchLink Room Scheduling Panels allow users to view availability and reserve rooms in real time.
