I Love Twitter, But It’s Not Working For Me
This may come as a surprise to people who know me, but my relationship with Twitter has been growing distant lately.
Despite the fact that I’ve gotten enormous benefit from Twitter over the years, lately it just doesn’t fit in with my life.
Part of the explanation for that is fairly easy. When I was still working primarily in the industry trade media, I was always in front of my laptop, with TweetDeck sitting open, so it was easy to stay on top of Twitter and use it in a way that’s worked for me: as my newspaper.
However, for the past year my life has changed: working as a vendor rep I spend my days in and out of my car, on and off of airplanes, and in and out of meetings.
And if any of you still follow me/are followed by me on Twitter you’ve doubtless noticed that I’ve virtually disappeared, only popping up and tweeting something very rarely.
In truth, the few times I’m on Twitter at all is solitary mealtimes when I’m traveling, either breakfast or dinner in restaurants.
Because I’m used to using Twitter as my daily newspaper I feel disconnected, and like I’m missing my normal sources of information.
If any of you have any suggestions for making Twitter work for me again, I’m all ears.
