HID to Acquire IDmelon to Expand Passwordless Authentication Portfolio

HID has signed an agreement to acquire IDmelon, a Vancouver-based company specializing in passwordless authentication technology. The acquisition, expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, will bring IDmelon’s FIDO-certified software and hardware solutions into HID’s Identity and Access Management Solutions (IAMS) business unit.
IDmelon’s platform enables organizations to convert existing identifiers — such as access cards, smartphones or biometric credentials — into enterprise-grade FIDO security keys. Its technology simplifies the transition to passwordless authentication by allowing users to log in securely without the need for USB tokens or complex hardware deployment.
“Users have become acutely aware of the problems with passwords,” said Björn Lidefelt, executive vice president and head of HID. “By adding IDmelon to the HID family, we now provide an easier path to passwordless.”
The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) standard, also known as passkey technology, offers a phishing-resistant alternative to passwords by using multi-factor authentication built into devices or credentials. IDmelon’s solution allows enterprises to leverage existing infrastructure while unifying digital and physical access under one management system.
The IDmelon FIDO Management Platform provides centralized control for administrators to import users and groups, assign and manage access cards or keys, enforce security policies and monitor activity. This approach supports a stronger identity-first security posture while reducing the complexity of password-based systems.
“We are committed to providing seamless, best-in-class passwordless authentication solutions,” said Martin Ladstaetter, senior vice president and head of Identity and Access Management Solutions at HID. “Now, with IDmelon in our portfolio, we are better equipped to help customers maximize their existing hardware investments by converting access cards into converged credentials that unify physical and logical access across the enterprise.”
Founded in 2019 and a member of the FIDO Alliance, IDmelon offers both software and hardware solutions that integrate with existing IT systems to streamline secure sign-in experiences.
“At IDmelon, our vision is to empower people and organizations to stay focused on their businesses and thrive knowing that their identities are protected,” said Bahram Piri, CEO and founder of IDmelon. “By joining forces with HID, we are in an even stronger position to help organizations overcome the growing problem of passwords to secure them against phishing and other credential-based attacks.”
