Here’s How the Extron NAV Solved Elevated Mt. San Antonio College Aquatics Center and Gym Complex

Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), one of the largest community colleges in California, recently completed a state-of-the-art gymnasium and aquatics complex outfitted with advanced AV technology. Spanning 145,000 square feet, the complex includes 13 videowalls and dozens of displays that require content distribution at a variety of native resolutions.

To meet the challenge, Mt. SAC implemented the Extron NAV Pro AV over IP system, which includes NAV scaling decoders and Extron control systems. The system links spaces across the facility — from the main and multi-purpose gyms to the main pool, dive pool and numerous meeting and learning rooms — via 93 NAV endpoints. The system is fully expandable.

“A significant feature of the NAV system is its capability to scale, because the different videowalls need to receive specific resolutions,” said Ben Frederick, CEO at Production Access Group. “With the NAV scaling decoder, the required resolution is delivered without having to install additional equipment in Mt. SAC’s challenging gym and pool environments.”

Systems integrator Centerpoint used a NAVigator Pro AV over IP System Manager with a LinkLicense upgrade to configure the encoders and scaling decoders in bulk, saving time and streamlining the setup. Each endpoint is labeled by location and ID, and support staff use the NAVigator to monitor and manage the entire AV system from a centralized location.

Video and other content can be distributed to any combination of displays, including the scoreboard, auxiliary monitors, digital signage and individual room displays. NAV 1G encoders bring content from the scoreboard computers and other sources into the AV ecosystem, supporting HDMI, Ethernet and USB.

Because the complex includes displays of various types and sizes, standardizing resolution wasn’t feasible. Each NAV scaling decoder is programmed to output the optimal resolution for the native specs of each display. Additionally, the decoders support AES67 audio streaming, further enhancing system flexibility.
