Here’s How Absen Pulled-Off the Immersive Tech in the Broadway Musical BOOP!
Absen is celebrating the success of BOOP! The Musical, now playing at the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway and recently honored with three Tony Award nominations. The production features an impressive deployment of 636 AbsenLive PL2.5 Pro LED panels, delivering vibrant visuals that bring the world of Betty Boop to life on stage.
Designed to meet the demands of Broadway’s most visually ambitious productions, AbsenLive’s PL2.5 Pro panels offer crisp imagery and bold color within an innovative scenic design that includes three dynamic layers of LED screens. These include two screens downstage, one at midstage, and a fourth upstage screen that can fly in to transform the space for major musical numbers. Integrated seamlessly into the set and choreography, the LED walls help drive key moments like the animated opening sequence “Betty Saves the Day” and numbers such as “A Little Versatility” and “Ordinary Day.”
Configured to move and track throughout the performance, the LED panels allow the scenic environment to function as an active storytelling element. From immersive portals to animated backdrops, the visuals support choreography and transitions while enhancing narrative depth.
To power the system, the production uses 10 Brompton Technology Tessera SX40 LED processors and 20 Tessera XD distribution units, enabling advanced signal management and smooth image processing.
