Federation University Enhances Hybrid Learning With Sennheiser Ceiling Mics
Federation University is transforming hybrid education across regional Victoria by equipping 45 of its Connected Classrooms with Sennheiser’s TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2) microphone systems.
The upgrade is part of a broader effort to improve both in-person and remote learning experiences through superior audio quality and streamlined technology integration.
Before installing the Sennheiser systems, the university struggled to deliver consistent, high-quality audio across its dispersed campuses. Leaders needed a scalable solution that worked without requiring frequent intervention from faculty or IT staff.
“We were looking for a system that delivers a superior learning experience for both in-class and remote participants,” said Amit Suyan, AV team leader at Federation University. “It had to be easy to use, reliable and offer excellent audio quality. The TCC 2 met all our requirements.”
Each classroom is outfitted with two TCC 2 microphones — one for the instructor and another for the audience — to ensure clear voice lift and remote transmission. The ceiling mics are certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms and integrate with Crestron video systems and Q-SYS digital signal processors. Lighting, screens and audio automatically adjust when a person enters the room.
The result is a “walk-in-and-teach” experience for instructors, with minimal setup time and reliable performance.
Suyan said the team focused on standardization and simplicity, with extensive prototyping and testing to refine performance. Rooms can now be commissioned in less than two days, and remote monitoring enables early detection of issues.
“The TCC 2 microphones are truly a ‘set and forget’ solution,” Suyan said. “They’re easy to install, perform reliably and the support from Sennheiser throughout the rollout was outstanding.”
University officials say the new setup offers a scalable, future-ready model for higher education AV systems — prioritizing accessibility, ease of use and consistent quality across locations.
