Why Everyone in AV Should Vacation in Australia Next August

I don’t recall ever meeting someone who thought taking a vacation in Australia was a bad idea. In fact, whenever Australia has ever come up in any business or casual conversation in my life, the response has always been, “I want to go there some day.”

Well, I’d highly recommend you seriously consider booking a BACATION (aka business vacation) for the last week of August in 2019. Not only will you get to spend an amazing week in beautiful Melbourne, Australia, but you can attend what has quietly become on of the top three AV shows in the world: Integrate.

Yes, one of the top three.

Obviously, InfoComm and ISE are the top two, but what was thought to be a 10-year-old regional-only AV show has, in the past three years, become a launching pad for new products and technology never seen before. Case in point: LG launched OLED here two years ago. And, they used Integrate 2017 to debut transparent OLED. Extron picked this year’s event for a private debut of its AV-over-IP line – coming in September to the rest of the world. Sonance is here with a new UTL in-wall and in-speaker line that’s only 37 millimeters deep (yes, only 37 mm!); I saw my first ever native 4K portable projector today and Lumens just showed me its new HDMI-based wireless sharing system, TapShare — virtually none of these have ever been seen anywhere else in the world. Plus, you get to vacation on the beach — in Australia, no less.

I am serious here. What better way to write off a vacation?

So, I am issuing a call to BOTH the manufacturer community and the integrator community — make the trip. You will not regret it. If you’re manufacturer, you NEED to be exhibiting here. Barco’s noticed. They only showed the ClickShare line here for the past few years in their distributor’s stand but, now at Integrate 2018, they have their entire product line here in their own booth. Nureva learned about the show from our coverage last year and added it to their trade show schedule.

So: Da-Lite, Chief, Christie Digital, Cisco, Legrand, Vaddio, Absen, Zoom, Stewart, Prysm, InFocus and BenQ: you need to be here too.

And, you’ll love Soren Norgaard, the event manager for Integrate. He’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Here’s an interview I did with him today on the show floor (note the show floor traffic):

If you want to get a feel for what products are here and what it’s like to be here, check out the 300 or so videos we shot on the show floor so far this week. But come back on Friday as we’ll be posting more!

And, thanks for reading!
