DisplaySearch Says LCD Shipments Fell Only 3 Percent in Q1 2009
In a good sign that manufacturers see light at the end of the economic tunnel, shipments of TFT-based LCD panels (10” and larger) only fell 3 percent in Q1 2009 over Q1 2008. Although revenues fell $10 billion in the quarter versus the same quarter last year, price competition from every company you can imagine jumping into the LCD manufacturer market at least partially drove that decline. Prices will stabilize as demand follows. In fact, in the ProAV market, there is actually a shortage of 40” LCD right now – as you’ve probably noticed.
