Dataton raises the bar with compact next-generation display server

ISE-meet2Linköping, Sweden: Dataton has launched WATCHPAX 4, a powerful,
portable addition to its range of media servers. Optimized for playback of
multi-display shows created in Dataton WATCHOUT, new WATCHPAX 4
sticks out with its sleek looks, small footprint and strong performance. Visitors
to ISE are invited to see WATCHPAX 4 in action at the Dataton stand in Hall
12 E70, where it will be showing 8K output (4 x 4K).
Dataton’s new WATCHPAX 4 media server has already scooped a Best of Show award at
the InfoComm show and is an InAVation Awards Technology Finalist at ISE. With its
practical profile and cleancut Scandinavia design, the unit has broad appeal in a wide range
of applications including signage, live events and fixed installations. The dedicated server
taps into the presentation power of Dataton’s well-known WATCHOUT production and
playback software, which unites stills, graphics, video, sound and live feeds into a single
impressive show across multiple display sources.
“WATCHPAX 4 is plug-and-play which is a great benefit on-site as it significantly reduces
installation time and ensures you always get the best performance from the hardware,”
explains Miroslav Andel, Chief Software Developer, Dataton. “Each unit has a Dataton
WATCHOUT license pre-installed and four DisplayPort video outputs, which makes it a
very cost-effective solution for integrators and producers.”
With an A4-sized footprint paired with four outputs, WATCHPAX 4 is the natural choice for
installs where space is at a premium. Units can be placed close to display sources, avoiding
long and expensive video cable runs, stacked, or mounted in a standard 19-inch rack for
extra flexibility. Performance-wise, WATCHPAX 4 provides four times UHD (4K) playback
and multiple units can be used in the same installation. Each server is geared up to provide
fast playback of large files and high-speed transfer of content over the network. The lockeddown
unit offers optional 4K video capture and multi-channel audio.
At ISE, WATCHPAX 4 units will power the central 8K video wall and projection-mapping
demonstration on the Dataton stand 12-E70.
