The Daily Raff: InfoComm 2025 Day 1 Thoughts
It’s official — Day 1 of InfoComm 2025 is officially OVER. And wow. The energy is truly something else. You guys may have seen that I wrote all of you and InfoComm a little love letter. I won’t repeat all of that but you can read it here. However, I do just want to echo that the show floor was truly something else today. Like, truly. Even if I was overstimulated and constantly 10 minutes behind on appointments and already on my last brain cell, I was so in awe of the show. I always am.
Trends
I always try to note some trends that I noticed on the show floor, but tbh I was so stacked appointment after appointment today that I didn’t have time to do much exploring of my own. However, I mentioned this on today’s rAVe [TV], I’m noticing a lot of good / better / best options for AV tech at this show. This is a wonderful trend; because not everyone wants the “good” option and sometimes the “best” option is too much for every single install. I like seeing more options for every type of application and every type of price point. Planar has been really great about this recently, by the way!
Networking
It is party central here at InfoComm in case any of you haven’t noticed! From Midwich to Almo Pro AV to Sony to Crestron to CTI and more — there are plenty of parties at this show. And I made it to as many as I possibly could. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a natural networker and I have had to work hard to become one. But I’m getting there! Shout out to the good people who have made me feel more at home this week! And FYI if you ever have the chance to hang out with Dave Labuskes at an industry party, I highly recommend it. (Everyone just comes to you instead of you having to go up to them.)
Lessons Learned?
One of my industry friends said to me today: “You interview a lot of the same people at a lot of the same shows. How are you still interested in what everyone has to say?”
I said, “Because chances are, they’re going to tell me at least one thing I didn’t know before.”
Everything I’ve learned about AV-over-IP, I’ve learned from interviewing people about it over and over and asking them questions that I actually want to know the answers to. So I think that’s an important thing that I’m going to carry with me the rest of the week.
That’s all from me pretty much. Sorry this wasn’t the best, most eloquent piece I’ve ever written, but I drank a Celsius at 3 p.m. today and I still feel like the walls are closing in around me.
I’ll see you guys tomorrow.
