Crestron Introduces TPMC-8T Tabletop WiFi Touchpanel With Embedded Biometrics and VoIP, and Develops

Crestron brought a new WiFi touchpanel to InfoComm that features an embedded Windows XP Operating System, 802.11a/b/g wireless, onboard NetMeeting and Skype, built-in Bluetooth for keyboard and mouse and a built-in biometric fingerprint scanner.

The fixed-tilt design of the TPMC-8T features a 37-degree angle, so it’s designed for lectern, table or counter surface installation. It also has an optional swivel mount accessory to permanently mount the TPMC-8T to a flat surface with 330-degree rotation.

The embedded PC in the TPMC-8T allows Web access via Internet Explorer, streaming media using WindowsMedia Player 10, email, and PC application viewers for MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat, while providing control of AV distribution, lighting, climate control and security.

It has an 8.4-inch, 160-bit display that produces 3D and supports wireless streaming video from a variety of third-party Web cameras and servers using the motion-JPEG format. There are also built-in stereo speakers.

Crestron also collaborated with Cisco on a new IP-based phone with an integrated touchpanel interface. The Cisco IP Phone 7970G uses a 5.6-inch touchscreen to let users access real-time business data through the IP network. The users press the “Services” button to access the Phone Project Server. A new touchscreen page displays, and the user selects the appropriate functions from the touchscreen menus.

Crestron XPanel IE provides Web browser-based control using ActiveX. XPanel IE Web pages are hosted on a 2-Series control system, allowing control on the fly from the Cisco phone via IP. These XPanel IE files are created just like touchpanel files using Crestron VisionTools Pro-e GUI design software.
