Creepy Digital Signage in the SSA
So, there I was, at the Social Security Administration office yesterday getting my name legally changed.
I’m in the quiet waiting room, a very old, quiet waiting room, sitting among the 30+ other people, and I look up.
There, on the wall, among old stuff, is a nice, shiny, new, SHARP Aquos digital signage display with information about the SSA that I may need to know while I wait.
At first, I was intrigued. I thought, “Wow, the United States Government has finally gotten with the technology program.”
The first notice was in Spanish and was perfectly normal…
Then we arrived at Creeptown USA… or should I say, Creeptown Enterprise?
There was an incredibly creepy / weird / strange Star Trek conversation happening on the screen saying, “Boldy go toSocialSecurity.gov” and whatnot.
It was super weird.
The photos don’t do it justice.
So, I’m torn. Am I glad the SSA is using digital signage to get messages across in their old waiting areas? Or am I horrified by the creepy Star Trek play that happens on the screen? Or both? Or neither? I don’t know what to think.
What do you think?
