Set Free Richardson, founder of the creative collective Compound, has partnered with Brooklyn-based loudspeaker manufacturer DeVore Fidelity to launch DEF CON, a limited-edition speaker designed to blend visual artistry with high-fidelity performance. The collaboration marks DeVore Fidelity’s first co-branded project and reflects a shared interest in merging culture, design and audio craftsmanship.

Richardson, known for work with brands including Nike, ESPN and EA Sports as well as the AND1 Mixtape series, said the project stemmed from his own exploration of high-end audio. “The DEF CON speaker represents more than just superior sound quality—it’s a statement piece,” he said. “I’ve always believed in bringing art and sound together. Partnering with DeVore Fidelity, whose craftsmanship and reputation in the Hi-Fi world are unmatched, was a natural fit to make this vision a reality.”

The DEF CON is based on DeVore Fidelity’s O/96, one of the company’s most longstanding speaker designs. The new model features a two-tone wood finish, combining a black rosewood front with lighter wood sides. Richardson worked closely with company founder John DeVore to reinterpret the speaker’s visual identity while preserving its acoustic performance.

“This collaboration with Set Free Richardson and Compound is very exciting for us at DeVore Fidelity,” DeVore said. “In our first partnership it was natural to start with our longest lasting and most popular speaker the O/96. With his exquisite taste Free brings a fresh eye to our design and the result is a stunning rejuvenation of a beloved product.”

Priced at $21,700, DEF CON is positioned for hi-fi enthusiasts, music lovers and art-focused collectors.
