Coastal Source Fixtures Illuminate Duck Key Home with Over 200 Custom Lighting Installations
A newly completed residence in Duck Key, Florida, features more than 200 outdoor lighting fixtures from Coastal Source, designed and installed in collaboration with D’Asign Source. The lighting system was created to complement the home’s landscaping and support outdoor living in a coastal environment.
Known as Jasmine House, the 4,000-square-foot residence includes a mix of architectural, landscape and hardscape lighting. The system includes niche lights along the driveway, uplights for trees and vegetation, step lights on the dock and along walkways, and tiki torch-style fixtures near gathering spaces like the pool and fire pit.
In total, 230 Coastal Source fixtures were installed. The lighting design avoids high-wattage “hotspots” in favor of subtle, evenly distributed illumination. Many of the property’s walkways are integrated into artificial turf, requiring niche markers and conduits to preserve the surface and simplify maintenance.
“Smaller wattage fixtures ensure a soft glow without creating unwanted hotspots, which was a preference of the homeowners,” said Nick D’Ascanio of D’Asign Source. To accommodate this, niche markers and conduits were used to minimize disruptions to the artificial turf while ensuring ease of serviceability.
The dock lighting, once powered by high-voltage systems, was replaced with Coastal Source step lights placed on the steps and low walls. Additional lighting was added after construction without requiring rework, due to the system’s adaptable connections.
D’Asign Source, which managed the project from concept through construction, incorporated lighting planning into early stages of the build — including during concrete work on the dock and planters. The team also made adjustments to match the homeowners’ changing design preferences, such as adding task lighting to a customized outdoor fish cleaning station.
In addition to functional illumination, the lighting highlights artistic and landscape features, including outdoor sculptures and tropical plants such as Frangipani, Lipstick Palms, bamboo and coconut palms.
The project was completed in mid-2023 and serves as an example of how durable lighting solutions can be integrated into high-end coastal properties with a focus on both functionality and aesthetics.
