Christie Projectors Power Ghostly Manor Dark Ride at Paultons Park

At Paultons Park in Hampshire, U.K., visitors to Ghostly Manor encounter an immersive blend of projection mapping, interactive gameplay and themed environments. Central to the attraction are Christie 1DLP laser projectors, which provide the visual foundation for the £3.5 million ride designed and installed by Lagotronics Projects.
Challenge
The attraction’s format — Gameplay Theater, developed by Mack Rides and Lagotronics Projects — required continuous vehicle rotation and close proximity to the projection surfaces. Each ride vehicle, seating eight guests back-to-back, moves in a circular footprint that reveals new scenes with every turn. Guests use “Phantom Phasers” to capture ghosts across eight different environments, culminating in a scoring scene that displays performance results and photos.

The design created a technical challenge: projectors needed to deliver large, bright images at steep angles without shadows from players or visible warping and blending.
Solution
Lagotronics Projects deployed six Christie DWU1100-GS and two DWU1400-GS laser projectors, each paired with 0.37-0.4:1 ultra-short-throw lenses. Christie provided technical support throughout the installation, ensuring accurate alignment on projection surfaces measuring approximately 10 meters wide by 3.5 meters high (32 by 11.5 feet).
The installation replaced a former 4D theater, with the entire project completed in 12 months.
Results
The projection system enhances Ghostly Manor’s practical sets and interactivity, contributing to high throughput while maintaining immersion. According to Jacco Groen in ’t Wout, CTO at Lagotronics Projects BV, “The audience reactions to the ride were great. Everybody was very enthusiastic about the experience as a whole… It was a great team effort, and we are happy to have been a part of it.”
Christie’s GS Series projectors, known for compact design, quiet operation and 20,000 hours of low-maintenance performance, delivered the brightness, image quality and reliability required for the installation.
