Beijing, China, 4 December 2015 — Leader in digital cinema technology Barco is proud to announce that over 100 units of its recently launched DP2K-6E projector have been shipped to Chinese customers. Introduced in July, the DP2K-6E is the smallest projector in the industry. With its compact design and 2K capabilities, the system is the perfect solution for China’s booming township theater market.

Currently, China’s diverse movie theater market is experiencing rapid growth in 3rd and 4th tier cities, but also in smaller townships. Many of these smaller theaters are in urgent need of upgrades to 2K  DCI compliant projectors. For most commercially available projectors, however, the demanding screening environment in these locations is a huge challenge. With the DP2K-6E, Barco addresses this particular need.

Quality, reliability, and ease-of-use

The DP2K-6E has a compact, motorized body, and a modular design. With its excellent reliability, impeccable picture quality and robust Alchemy processing technology, the projector offers the greatest value for money for movie screens up to 8 meters wide. At this year’s BIRTV2015 Awards, the projector won the Outstanding Product Award. The jury lauded the unit’s optical engine optimization, innovative cooling system, extreme brightness (the highest in its range), improved sealing, and lower operating noise (48 dB only). Also mentioned was the simple and flexible mounting system which enables easy installation in the complex, ever-changing screening environment.

Culture to Countryside

The DP2K-6E features the same lens kit, electronics and filters as Barco’s S-series projectors. This allows for easy sharing of components and reduced purchase costs. Combined with the minimum required mounting space and low power consumption, this constitutes a significant reduction in operating expenses for theaters. What’s more, the projector perfectly fits into China’s “Culture to Countryside” project, which brings innovative cinema technology to rural areas.
