Barco introduces new range of laser-phosphor projectors for the simulation market, coupling great image quality with low TCO

barcoKortrijk, Belgium, 16 May 2016 − Global projection technology leader Barco proudly introduces a new family of professional solid-state projectors to the simulation market. This new family of laser-phosphor projectors will exist alongside our successful LED range, perfectly answering the market’s need for operational simplicity, superior image quality, and low total cost of ownership (TCO). The F90 − the first projector to be launched in this family − boasts up to 13,000 lumens and up to 4K UHD resolution, setting new standards in terms of brightness and image quality. Specifically, the high brightness output makes the F90 series ideal for use in a wide variety of large display applications, ranging from ship bridges to rear-projection simulation domes.

The high-quality F90 series was designed with the stringent demands of the simulation market in mind. Smearing reduction ensures that fast-moving objects are depicted with the highest accuracy. The very high illumination level − using laser-phosphor technology − means that fewer channels are needed on large display areas, further reducing total cost of ownership (TCO).

Barco’s own unique 4K UHD Single Step Processing (SSP™) technology, which ensures lower latency than competing technologies, makes sure that, even in fast-moving simulation systems, the sense of reality is upheld at all times. The embedded warp & blend capability, Constant Light Output (CLO), unmatched color performance over time, and dual iris system with optical filters for a great contrast range, guarantee that images can be displayed true-to-life in any simulation system.

Extremely reliable, with minimal maintenance
Not only is laser-phosphor technology very reliable, it requires only minimal maintenance. The brightness and color performance over time is exceptional. And with a light source lifetime of up to 40,000 hours, very little maintenance is needed − again contributing to low TCO.

An additional advantage of the F90 series is that it utilizes all of the existing high-quality lens options of Barco/projectiondesign’s F3x series. The large install base of existing customers will find this very beneficial when calculating the cost of upgrading.

Superior image quality
“With this new family of professional-class projectors, we’ve combined the best of both worlds from our Norway and Belgium-based R&D teams,” says Dave Flugeman, VP Simulation at Barco. “With our unmatched legacy of high-quality DLP® projectors and our rich history of high-end products for the entertainment and simulation market, this new class of projectors is designed to meet − and exceed − the rigors of the simulation market. The superior image quality of the F90 series makes this compact projector a real high-flyer in its class.”

The F90 series is being offered alongside Barco’s extremely successful LED range of projectors developed for the simulation market. For the first showcasing of the F90’s capabilities, visit Barco’s booth at ITEC (17-19 May in ExCeL, London, UK).
