Barco brings fabulous 4K in distinctive display design to the operating room

Kortrijk, Belgium, 8 November 2018 — Barco launches the MDSC-8427, a brand-new 4K surgical display. The compact 27” screen delivers impeccable image quality for 4K visualization in the operating room. Every detail of the design has been carefully envisioned to assure a professional, purposeful, and elegant fit for the surgical suite.

“The new MDSC-8427 is a first in our next generation of 4K displays for the operating room,” says Johan Stockman, Barco’s VP surgical imaging. “Careful consideration went into the new design. We wanted to create a display that combines surgical aesthetics with surgical precision. This new paradigm of display design shows how fine form can meet function in the operating room”.

“This is our first surgical display that provides a double user interface for smooth control of screen and layout configurations. The touch screen at the front offers four dedicated shortcut buttons, which can be programmed to meet the personal preferences of surgical staff. We’ve also foreseen tactile navigation keys at the back to ensure perfect usability and user friendliness. Designed with the needs of biomedical staff in mind, they give access to more technical display configuration functions,” adds Johan Stockman.

Characteristic of all of Barco’s 4K surgical displays, the new MDSC-8427 features exceptional image quality, brightness and crisp contrast. Thanks to smart image processing technology, specially designed for medical video, surgical images will be razor-sharp. Add to this the wide color gamut and advanced color calibration, and you’ll see the most accurate colors on-screen, from any angle in the operating room.

For today and tomorrow

With the rise of 4K endoscopes and room cameras, this surgical display is ideal for current and new installs. The 27” size offers a lightweight and attractive alternative to current 24” or 26” Full HD displays. It can also replace the Full HD screen on the surgical cart or dual displays on the monitor arm of a surgical boom. Thanks to the broad future-proof connectivity options (DP, HDMI, 12G-SDI, Quad-SDI, IP), surgeons can easily visualize a wide range of digital video sources, including endoscopic video, room and boom camera video, patient and surgery information, and more. For a comprehensive view of all information in the OR, multiple sources can be displayed simultaneously on the screen.
