AV Power Up! – Episode 22: The Main Event

PowerUP_logo0708The live event is something that you may classify as a chance to see something special take place, be it a concert, a major speech or a presentation, and while you the attendee look forward to getting your “money’s worth” it’s the people who work behind the scenes who are the ones depended upon to make it all really happen. A glitch, while in the tech world just represents a minor occurrence, in this business it can spell the difference between success and well, possibly not. Those professionals that work the long hours, setting up the equipment, running the cables, managing the details and basically digging in to create a successful outcome for everyone involved deserve nothing short of great accolades for what they do in the live events industry. And on this show we bring that discussion – with the Mad Sound Guy leading the way.

Join Host Christa (@AVChrista) Bender and the Crew – Corey (@Cbmoss) Moss, Chuck (@madsoundguy) Espinoza, Stacy (@Vaddio_Stacy) Kringlen, Johnny (@JMOTA3) Mota, and Rich (@RichardPrevete) Prevete as they welcome:

Alexis La Broi (@AlexisLaBroi) with Avitecture

Bennett (Ben) Warner with Applied Video Technology

Hope Roth, Jane Johnson and Gina Sansivero (on a call in!)

After some early stuff and things (Johnny was with us from the start!), we launch this one with discussion targeted toward live events and Chuck leads the discussion with his background in the market, as many know that he runs sound for concerts in the DC Metro area (outside of his industry day job). Christa begins talking about The Pope’s visit to Philadelphia and Chuck picks it up talking about live sound, business events, project management and more. Alexis tells us about her past experience in the events realm (17 years) and Ben brings excellent discussion about his experiences too. Rich adds some great discussion on the topic as well. Oh and if you went to see that Guns ‘n Roses concert where Axl decided not to participate, don’t blame those events people. Just sayin’.

We also talk about meeting planning and events software and mobile apps. And we have approval as Rich will be off to ISE next year to do the AV Power Up show in Amsterdam with his GoPro on a hat and roller blades – an event must see! Johnny Change-Games with the new Apple TV, and Tim Cook is awaiting a call from Johnny (and Chuck) to tell him what he needs to do to improve it. Along with the iPad Pro we also talk about Apple’s new #2 – really Tim Cook? Rich does his (still unauthorized) That’s a Lotta Wiahs, Chuck Powers Up with some great discussion on “checking yourself” and documentation. Hope (we had Hope!), Jane and Gina call in from the same hotel lobby in Boston to talk AV, leadership and special drinks – wait – don’t we have that conversation every year at InfoComm? And yes, Oktoberfest at Christa’s! Corey finishes it up as he talks about IoT and the NFL, an interview he conducted with an industry CRO and Higher Ed CIO, as well as the recent techXchange show.

Rich of course excels at the Hot Jobs, and stay till the end as we have a special short discussion.

So sit back, enjoy the show and always remember to…
