AV Insider Spotlight : Grifiths Zachariah, Technical Sales Director – India & Middle East at ClearOne

Each week, I am highlighting on some of the incredible people who are in the Audio Video Industry. As this blog is mostly about AV insiders, today we are profiling Grifiths Zachariah .

Here is a brief intro about him.

AV Insider Spotlight - Grifith Z - 3Grifiths Zachariah has worked in the Audiovisual industry for over 10 years. He is currently working as Technical Sales Director – India & Middle East at ClearOne.

1.Describe your journey in the AV industry? How did it start?

It started after my school days when I started visiting a nearby Television Assembling and Repair shop. We started selling our own assembled television sets these days. My journey with Pro AV began as a Service Engineer in the audio visual industry 13yrs ago in Delhi. It was a new region for me with different culture, but plenty of opportunities to learn. I was fortunate enough to work with some great people at various System Integration companies and dealt with some of the very large Enterprise and Government Customers with the role of a Project Manager.

2.What do you think is the challenges that are facing a new person who wants to join the industry

AV Industry is still running majorly on proprietary protocols. Someone who wishes to start a career in an AV Sales role is also expected to understand the basic technical know-hows. For some one to start a Technical role has to deal with many types of communication protocols, signal types….We are yet to develop a single course, teaching all of these. Key for a new joinee will be to get enrolled for some of the training programs offered by the Industry Organizations such as Infocomm and manufacturers training courses. The good news is we are getting standardized, and the opportunity to deal with a single type of connector and Internet Protocol is nearer.
It is certainly much better than a decade ago, with recent increase in mobile devices and exchange of Information happening online.

3.What are the positives of working in this industry

Your End Customer is able to see, hear and feel the outcome of your hard work and provide an immediate feedback . This is something very important, which will keep you going after challenges again and again.

4.What in your opinion would you change in the industry? What are the negatives that are prevalent ?

One Thing – “Communicate”. I feel communicating more time with my customer and understanding their detailed requirement is important. Our Industry must spend enough time designing the solution will help to avoid re-work and frustration at the end.

I would want to sell a solution solving customer’s problem rather than pushing a few boxes.

5.Describe your ideal client? What do you wish clients to know before hiring you.

Anyone who has a requirement to do hands-free communication for business meetings is my Ideal Customer.

I always wish to deliver my solutions and services for every single currency spent by my customer. Similarly, my customer must know my deliverables before they hire me.

6.If you were going to start over, what would you do differently ?

Nothing. Consistent Learning and adapt to the situation are the keys which I continue to do.

7.Describe a typical work day for you. What are your daily disciplines?

Being available to my customers from four different time zones defines my work day.Couple of business meetings in a day is common.

8.Describe the apps and gear that you use daily which makes you more productive?

Mail Client, Skype, OwnCloud, Spontania, Multi Measures and Concur – Used daily to be productive at work.
