Automated Space and Mobile Working
Required disclaimer: This represents the opinion and experience of me personally and does not represent any specific policy, law or official guidance.
Why would someone expect to be talking about space automation, mobile working and bring your own device (BYOD) at InfoComm 2013? Most federal agencies are dealing not only serious budgetary challenges; they also have to deal with reducing their physical space and a cultural workforce willing to mobile work.
Spending time in the AMX booth (2216), it seems to be model to address this whole issue. There booth rooms that have large and small variations of AMX touch panels displaying the particular room’s schedule. Theoretically, a person could walk up to an available conference room and, using this touch control panel, reserve a room! Sounds just so simple, doesn’t it?
I was looking at how AMX has developed this around its Resource Management System (RMS) Enterprise scalable client / server application. I can remember the early days of RMS and its focus was inventory and monitoring. The demonstration I received was well beyond a simple, “Hey, my projector lamp needs to be replaced.” RMS has become an application that can manage rooms schedules, as well as manage and monitor equipment. My overall impression is if you are in the situation where your organization is in need of space management and automation, check out AMX and its amazing RMS Enterprise system.
