Hey there, HOW readers! I hope everyone is doing well, staying healthy and had a great Memorial Day weekend. Let’s talk about video projection for a second. Since you all work in churches and other houses of worship — I know you hear comments from the peanut gallery/congregation about seeing great video projection and wanting that same technology built in their own places of worship. Yikes! If they have stained glass windows and a ton of natural light — how do you break it to them that video projection ain’t gonna fly? Fred Ampel is here to help — and spends his blog breaking down that dilemma for you.
Our other column is from our copywriter, Leah McCann. At rAVe, we have not only been hosting live events but also attending them. Check out her wrapup from NAB Show Express — she always provides great insights.
A couple of other news-y highlights:
Roland expanded its Roland Cloud solution.
Planar Expanded its LED display options.
We have the tea on what was up with Almo Pro A/V’s E4v — and more to come later.
I have lost track of the number of times (at least a hundred over the last decade) a HOW client has asked about the possibility of a large-screen projection installation in the middle of a beautiful, naturally lit sanctuary — in the crossfire of sunlight beams through stained glass windows. I’ll admit it: The last five years have seen an enhancement of screen technologies for light rejection. The projector side of the fence has also seen amazing improvements in light engines, laser technology and lamp life. However, the rules of physics — and the way the human eye perceives light — have not changed.
Like so many trade shows this year, broadcast mega-event NAB Show, originally planned for April in Las Vegas, could not happen due to COVID-19. In its place, NAB organized its virtual NAB Show Express. I registered and attended part of the online event to soak up some industry education and see what the showcase would be like.
