Latest headlines: Bob Snyder on Google’s latest offering, Scott Tiner on NFTs and the AV industry, plus news from Studio Technologies & more

April 22, 2022 | Volume: 8 | Issue: 8

Is everyone ready for trade show season? I know I am! I absolutely can’t wait to get to Barcelona for ISE — if you, my end-user friends, are going this year, be sure to stop me on the show floor and say hi! If not, however, we will be having an ISE rePLAY event for you to catch all of what you missed.

For your columns this week, Bob Snyder writes about a new offering from Google that uses a radar to detect when people are close and intelligently know what to do next. How can this be re-imagined into something that can turn all of our conference room equipment on simultaneously? Or maybe it will know who we are so that it can adjust to our setting preferences automatically?

Also, Scott Tiner poses the question of whether or not NFTs will play a role in AV. What do you think? Are there options to incorporate these in all of your digital signage? Is that worth capitalizing on?

Food for thought for the weekend! Enjoy!

COLUMNS

+ Google Wants Us on Its Radar [Bob Snyder]

The latest human-computer interface — an interface that could dramatically impact the AV business — comes from Google’s hardware invention studio, Advanced Technology & Projects (ATAP).

+ Will NFTs Play a Role in AV? [Scott Tiner]

As AV professionals, we will have to learn how to verify the authenticity of an NFT and how to setup displays to show only NFTs that are verified as having the appropriate permissions. Envision a direct view display that is displaying an NFT but has some type of watermark or indication that shows the viewer that it is original and legitimate. So, just like my print of “Chair,” others could still have an image of the NFT, but anyone looking at it would know that it is not the original.
