Episode 696: Why Is Projector-Only Epson Exhibiting at the Digital Signage Expo?
Laser projection is to the projector market as OLED is to the flat-panel display market — it’s truly a revolution in colorimetry and form-factor. So, Epson, known as the industry’s projector-only display company leading the market with 3LCD technology, will be at DSE with not only a family of laser projectors aimed at digital signage, but with a truly-revolutionary form-factor. Gary was joined on today’s podcast with Epson’s Senior Product Manager, Remi Del Mar, to talk about how Epson will create projection-based digital signage experiences at DSE and a hint about what launches Wednesday! Epson will be in booth 2336 at DSE or you can see everything here.

Episode 693: Peerless-AV Will Bring Record Record Number of New Products to DSE
Gary was joined on today’s podcast by Peerless-AV VP of Sales Brian McClimans, who not only talked about the company’s DSE launches but also gave us some great insight to the digital signage industry and where it’s heading. Obviously, the big-growth area is in LED, but the all-in-one kiosk market for digital signage is also huge and, Brian says, is the easiest way to ease into the signage market. Peerless-AV is in booth 1917 at DSE in Las Vegas next week so you’ll want to put them on your show plans. Peerless-AV is here: http://www.peerless-av.com and, if you’re not already, you should call your Peerless-AV rep to sign up for their DSE reception.

Episode 688: Where Is AVIXA Now?
It’s been six months since InfoComm (the association) became AVIXA (the association). Of course, InfoComm (the show) is still the InfoComm Show and is quickly approaching — just four months away! But, there’s no association (or arguably, no group in the entire ProAV market) more important to all of us in the commercial AV market as AVIXA. They’ve helped steer ANSI accreditation standards and a host of educational certifications including CTS, they’re still producing the oldest AV trade show in North America and they’re helping bring a greater understanding of the power and influence of the AV experience to end users — thus, we all stand to grow along with them. So, we all are, directly or indirectly, influenced by everything AVIXA does.
With all that in mind, I took the time to catch up with AVIXA CEO, Dave Labuskes on todays videocast, to see what’s-up with AVIXA right now and what we can expect from them in 2018 – and what’s new at InfoComm in June, too!
Oh, and before I forget, register for the 2018 InfoComm show (June 6-8) in Las Vegas here.

Episode 72: The Hidden Competition
Many times in AV we focus on our closest manufacturing or integration competitors when selling our products and services. However, in today’s environment, there is always a hidden competitor you should be watching out for.

For all you REGULAR listeners of rAVe Radio out there, hopefully you enjoyed another opinion-packed issue!
For those of you NEW to rAVe, you just read how we are – we are 100 percent opinionated. We not only report the news and new product stories of the ProAV and HomeAV industries, but we stuff the articles full of our opinions. That may include (but is not limited to) whether or not the product is even worth looking at, challenging the manufacturers on their specifications, calling a marketing-spec bluff and suggesting ways integrators market their products better. But, one thing is for sure, we are NOT a trade publication that gets paid for running editorial or product stories. Traditional trade publications get paid to run product stories – that’s why you see what you see in most of the pubs out there. We are different: we run what we want to run and NO ONE is going to pay us to write or say anything good (or bad).
To send me feedback, don’t reply to this newsletter. Instead, write directly to me at gary@ravepubs.com or for editorial ideas, Editor-in-Chief Sara Abrons at sara@ravepubs.com.
A little about me: I graduated from Journalism School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (where I am adjunct faculty). I’ve been in the AV industry since 1987 where I started with Extron and eventually moved to AMX. So, I guess I am an industry veteran (although I don’t think I am that old). I have been an opinionated columnist for a number of industry publications and in the late 1990s I started the widely read KNews eNewsletter (the first in the AV market) and also created the model for and was co-founder of AV Avenue, which is now known as InfoComm IQ. rAVe [Publications] has been around since 2003, when we launched our original newsletter, rAVe ProAV Edition.
Everything we publish is Opt-in – we spam NO ONE! rAVe ProAV Edition is our flagship ePublication with what we believe is a reach of virtually everyone in the ProAV market. rAVe HomeAV Edition, co-published with CEDIA and launched in June 2004, is, by far, the largest ePub in the HomeAV market. We added rAVe Rental [and Staging] in December 2007, rAVe ED [Education] in May 2008 and then rAVe DS [Digital Signage] in June 2009. We added rAVe GHGav [Green, Healthcare & Government AV] in August 2010 and rAVe HOW [House of Worship] in August 2012. rAVe Radio, our podcasts, were launched in 2012. You can subscribe to any of those publication or see ALL our archives by going to: https://www.ravepubs.com
