Episode 12: InfoComm Wrap-up with HARMAN
Bradford Benn (@BradfordBenn), Themed Attractions Solutions Manager with Harman Professional, joins host Christa Bender (@AVChrista) to discuss the 2016 InfoComm show, Net Neutrality, Rule 41, and how an #AVPuppy makes everything better.
This year Harman was located in the Unified Communications pavilion instead of the audio pavilion. Which makes sense, considering the Harman line offers many internet, IP-based devices. Bradford discusses the numerous new products that Harman displayed at the InfoComm show.
Bradford and Christa laugh at how VGA and VHS is still prevalent in the AV world, yet there are still applications that justify their existence.
Bradford gleefully proclaims himself the most popular guest on Tech Chaos; however, Christa quickly assures him that he is tied with Marika Aquino for that spot.
All of these topics and more can be heard on this episode of Tech Chaos.

Episode 4: InfoComm Special Podcast 2016
Dan Jackson, Manager, Research and Development at Crestron, and David Thorson, Senior Manager, Programming Architecture at AVI-SPL, join hosts Hope Roth (@beerandpie) and Chris Tatton (@chris_tatton) for a very special edition of the Floating Point.
Dan lets us in on the R&D process at Crestron. Apparently it takes more than a couple days to bring a new product to market. Who knew? We talk about the new Crestron DSP, just announced today. It was almost ready for Infocomm last year, but Crestron didn’t want to rush it to market before it was 100% ready.
We also talk about DM (Dan’s baby), which is almost ready for a learner’s permit, and can now be deployed in the enterprise without using Crestron Toolbox for everything. We skip the silly question in favor of a trivia question from David. Did you get it correct?
Tweet @thefloatingp and let us know. You’re on the honor system!

Episode 530: What Did Planar & Leyard Do at InfoComm?
One of the most popular booths at InfoComm was the Leyard booth — thanks to a giant 31′ wide and 19′ tall 8K LED wall — the brainchild of Jennifer Davis, Leyard’s CMO. And Gary spoke to Jennifer today about that and the other products that both Leyard and Planar launched at InfoComm 2016. Its lineup included a bunch of 4K stuff and a technology preview of a stunning 8K display that was sort-of hidden but hidden in plain sight. If you aren’t a Leyard dealer yet, you should be — listen why!

Episode 529: How a Book Lead to the Development of Nureva’s HDL-300 — And What’s Next for Nureva?
Nureva launched at InfoComm 2015 with SPAN a video-centric product, and returned to InfoComm 2016 to debut the HDL-300 an audio-centric product. And, nearly every traditional audio-based manufacturer took note. That’s how much potential the HDL-300 has – as it’s basically a small-room microphone-array in a speaker bar form-factor that fills a room with 8192 virtual microphones so you never hear, “can you get closer to the mic” during an audio conference again.
Gary was joined by Nureva’s co-founders, Nancy Knowlton and Dave Martin, who explain the concept behind the HDL-300 – and how it was inspired by a future-forward thinking book – how it will be distributed and sold and a hint at what we can expect, next, from Nureva. It’s a great InfoComm wrap-up podcast and will make you want to check out Gary’s own demo of the Nureva HDL-300 from InfoComm yourself – which you can watch here.

Nick details some of the product launches, ther theme for this year’s party and information about a new Crestron app for the show. Episode 527: InfoComm Special Videocast: Christie to Debut MYSTIQUE at InfoComm
Although MYSTIQUE is new, Christie has had elements of it in the past. MYSTIQUE is Christie’s new branded service for turn-key support of integrators in the complete management of a system – from design to commissioning. So, instead of doing just meeting rooms in a stadium, why not do the entire stadium – Christie aims to help you do that with MYSTIQUE. Gary had a videocast with Christie’s Senior Director, Solution Research, James Robinson, who actually demo’d what they can provide the integrator as a service through MYSTIQUE. You will absolutely understand it better by watching this!

Episode 525: InfoComm Special Videocast: InFocus Debuts Both Its New InfoComm Product Launches on rAVe RADIO
In addition to Canvas 5.0, InFocus will debut Catalyst 4K at InfoComm 2016. With Canvas 5.0, InFocus has redesigned the user-interface AND added that interface as the default interface for all the Catalyst Display Wall Processors. Catalyst 4K allows a video wall to be built with up to 12 displays (each at a native 4K resolution) – and, of course, you can mix 1080p and 4K in Catalyst 4K, too. This allows for command centers to have fine detailed information that’s, literally, 4x what they are using now – at a minimum since most control centers use, at best, 1080p displays and projectors. Catalyst 4K supports both! InFocus will demo this at InfoComm in booth N1417.

Episode 524: InfoComm Special Podcast: Brady Bruce of InFocus Talks Jupiter, Infocus and InfoComm 2016, Including Capacitive Touch and 4K
In late 2015, Jupiter Systems was acquired by InFocus and now Brady Bruce is the chief marketing officer at Infocus, which they’ve converted from a display company to a collaborative systems provider. Bruce talks about how Canvas Touch, Mondopad and JTouch are all benefiting from InFocus’ new capacitive touch technology, in addition to the benefits of the 4K pixel density displays. This is a great “conversations” discussion between raVe founder Gary Kayye and Bruce — both of whom have a love for new technology. InFocus will be at InfoComm in booth N1417!

Episode 522: InfoComm Special Videocast: Nureva to Debut HDL-300 at InfoComm
Nureva’s product manager, Tyrone Chou, debuted their new HDL-300 audio conferncing system today on a special video version of Gary’s podcast. The wall-mounted microphone and speaker system (in one) literally creates 8,192 virtual microphones that fill the room to pick up sounds from every corner. Advanced signal processing algorithms, in combination with an array of 12 physical omnidirectional microphones, create an immersive audio experience. Trust us, it’s a must see (uh, hear). A signal processor with 15,000 MIPS delivers 15 times the processing capability of competitive products. Want to know more? Watch the videocast!

For all you REGULAR listeners of rAVe Radio out there, hopefully you enjoyed another opinion-packed issue!
For those of you NEW to rAVe, you just read how we are – we are 100 percent opinionated. We not only report the news and new product stories of the ProAV and HomeAV industries, but we stuff the articles full of our opinions. That may include (but is not limited to) whether or not the product is even worth looking at, challenging the manufacturers on their specifications, calling a marketing-spec bluff and suggesting ways integrators market their products better. But, one thing is for sure, we are NOT a trade publication that gets paid for running editorial or product stories. Traditional trade publications get paid to run product stories – that’s why you see what you see in most of the pubs out there. We are different: we run what we want to run and NO ONE is going to pay us to write or say anything good (or bad).
To send me feedback, don’t reply to this newsletter. Instead, write directly to me at gary@ravepubs.com or for editorial ideas, Editor-in-Chief Sara Abrons at sara@ravepubs.com.
A little about me: I graduated from Journalism School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (where I am adjunct faculty). I’ve been in the AV industry since 1987 where I started with Extron and eventually moved to AMX. So, I guess I am an industry veteran (although I don’t think I am that old). I have been an opinionated columnist for a number of industry publications and in the late 1990s I started the widely read KNews eNewsletter (the first in the AV market) and also created the model for and was co-founder of AV Avenue, which is now known as InfoComm IQ. rAVe [Publications] has been around since 2003, when we launched our original newsletter, rAVe ProAV Edition.
Everything we publish is Opt-in – we spam NO ONE! rAVe ProAV Edition is our flagship ePublication with what we believe is a reach of virtually everyone in the ProAV market. rAVe HomeAV Edition, co-published with CEDIA and launched in June 2004, is, by far, the largest ePub in the HomeAV market. We added rAVe Rental [and Staging] in December 2007, rAVe ED [Education] in May 2008 and then rAVe DS [Digital Signage] in June 2009. We added rAVe GHGav [Green, Healthcare & Government AV] in August 2010 and rAVe HOW [House of Worship] in August 2012. rAVe Radio, our podcasts, were launched in 2012. You can subscribe to any of those publication or see ALL our archives by going to: https://www.ravepubs.com
