I want to present the first “Daily Raff” of the show! This is my show-floor series — and this first piece is all about the first few things I noticed from the show floor.

+ The Daily Raff: ISE 2023 Day 1 Thoughts [Steph Beckett]

Let’s first talk about the name of this column. Known previously as “Steph Says,” these columns are a giant list of random thoughts and notions I have on the show floor. Things I’m noticing, things I want you to see and trends I am catching onto. But once Gary rebranded his trade show newsletter to “The Daily Riff” (you can subscribe here), it only made sense for me to call my trade show column series “The Daily Raff.” Because together, Gary and I really are the riff-raff of the trade show floor.

For decades, it was an exception if you saw a specialized AV events company with a full business unit in the more static business of system integration. Mostly they were the fancy cousins who shared an interest in the same technologies but catered to a parallel “live event” market. But all that has changed now. When the next pandemic comes, Europe’s events firms hope not to be so exposed. And the new AV industry emphasis on “experiential,” suits them quite well.
