Latest headlines: Gary Kayye with his latest expectation of InfoComm, Mark Coxon on the supply chain gap, plus news from L-Acoustics & more

October 20, 2021 | Volume: 19 | Issue: 39

Here comes InfoComm on the horizon, and although it’s definitely going to be different this year, our team is still busy as ever. I’m flying down to Orlando Friday! (I haven’t packed. Oops.)

That leads me to our columns. Gary writes in his latest expectation of InfoComm that everyone should relax! This year’s show is definitely going to be different, so let’s embrace it! Spend more time networking. Meet new friends! Or, if you’re like me, spend time moseying on the show floor. I think this piece of advice is the best!

Next, Mark Coxon writes about the supply chain gap. We’ve all felt the effects of this — yes, I have indeed been waiting nine weeks for a couch — but it’s also been felt in AV in particular. Mark writes about how to prepare if this ever happens again and how we should virtualize as much of our hardware as we can.

That’s all from me for now. Be sure to check out Alcons Audio’s new two-way column array system, Xilica’s Sonia range of networked amplifiers and ceiling speakers, and Snap One’s updates to its OvrC platform.

Have a good one!

COLUMNS

+ Part 4: Simple Expectations of InfoComm 2021 — Just Relax [Gary Kayye]

In Part 1 of my “Simple Expectations of InfoComm 2021” series of blogs, I explained some of the elements of how InfoComm 2021 will be like no other InfoComm we’ve had in history — for OBVIOUS reasons. In part 2, I explained why showing only one product in your booth is critical to success at InfoComm 2021. Part 3 was about leveraging the QR code. Today’s blog focuses on a new expectation: relax.

+ The Supply Chain Gap — Is It Our Own Fault? [Mark Coxon]

If we really want to become more efficient as an industry moving forward, we need to embrace the idea of virtualizing as much of our hardware as we can and get serious about the standards and cross-compatibility of devices that utilize them.

+ Conferences Need to Adapt to the New Normal [Scott Tiner]

The pandemic changed the world, and successful conferences will change with them. We need creative individuals to carefully consider why conferences or trade shows happen in the first place. What is the value to the organization, the attendees and the exhibitors?
