Latest headlines: Lee Distad on the attire evolution for sales reps, Dr. S. Ann Earon on getting into the resimercial market and more

Lee Distad discusses the work uniform in his latest column. As someone who hates dressing in business clothes WITH A PASSION, I am here for the dumbed-down attire. Personally, I get uncomfortable when someone is dressed in business formal for a meeting with me. If I had it my way, everyone would just dress how they feel their best all the time, but I understand that when half your job is meeting with clients, you’re expected to step it up. I don’t meet with clients very often, and every time I have, I’ve panicked. I will never forget a call with my co-worker, Kelcie, before one of the times I did have to meet with a potential client — she asked if I owned anything other than jeans, and I said, “Yes. I also own black jeans.” Come to think of it; maybe I ought to step it up in the new year. Yikes.

Happy holidays, you lot. Thanks for reading our news and for being part of the rAVe family.

COLUMNS

+ You’ve Got the Look [Lee Distad]

I’ve seen more than a few articles in the business press about the decline of either the suit, the tie, or both in the business world post-COVID. Me, I was ahead of the curve. I haven’t worn a suit since I worked for Sony. There are two key reasons why I don’t wear a suit. The first is easy: I’m not required to. The second reason is much more important: I avoid wearing a suit because when I do wear one, I look like a hitman.

+ Ask Dr. Ann: How Do I Get Into the Resimercial Market? [Dr. S. Ann Earon]

What will residential audiovisual and information technology look like as WFH becomes more common in the new hybrid working world? To start, keep in mind that all residential systems, including home offices, must share AC power and the communications network that serves the home. This means if a home experiences an internet or power outage, both residential and home office systems will fail. Generators are now becoming mandatory. The following are suggested steps to take to make working from home successful.
