Holy moly, y’all. D=SIGN: The Digital Signage Conference is officially over and through, and while I am so sad to see it go, I was so happy to have been a part of this amazing conference. I hope you will check out Leah McCann’s wrapup of day 1. As you probably know, she always does a fantastic and comprehensive job of picking out the highlights of the events she covers — and as usual, she came through for this. Thanks Leah!

You’ll also see that we have two columns about AV acoustics this time. I love when our writers are inspired by one another, so first check out Daniel Shatzkes’ article, then take a look at Mark Coxon’s response. They both make really great points — so if you are at all interested in how to make the integrator’s life easier by keeping acoustics in mind (you probably are since you are mostly integrators) give them both a read.

Engaging the services of an acoustics specialist at the outset of a new construction can help mitigate problems that generally rear their heads just after the walls are up and the paint has dried. Ironically though, acoustics and sound transmission seem to be an afterthought, if that at all. If only more architects and general contractors would keep these critical factors in mind and plan for them at the origin, there would be far fewer instances of needing to “fix” problems with band-aid solutions.
