rAVe ProAV Edition — Volume 18, Issue 34
Latest headlines: Bob Snyder on the world’s largest digital camera, Chris Evans on the surge in corporate video use, plus news from ISE!

September 17, 2020 | Volume: 18 | Issue: 34

Hello, pro #AVtweeps! I hope you are all having a good week and that you didn’t forget what day it was when you woke up like I did. We once again have a packed issue for you, full of all the news you could ever want or need. So, here we go, I’ll break it down for you.

Bob Snyder of rAVe Europe fame wrote about the world’s largest digital camera. Check it out to see just how a camera could take a 3200-megapixel image. Our other column is from Chris Evans who writes about the surge in corporate video use — and how that’s affecting the entry-level professional video product market.

For news, we have the latest on ISE 2021 — now being postponed to June 1-4. Check out both ISE stories to get just how the new ISE dates will work with InfoComm 2021. Are we going to be tired with two of the biggest trade shows happening during the same month? YES. But that’s a “future us” problem.

In terms of product news, we have written up everything from BenQ’s new displays with Zoom integrated within them, Waves Audio’s new stage box, Black Box’s new UCC-focused service and a new offering from Barco.

We even have a couple interesting case studies for your perusal, so I hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing them up!

Oh, and one more thing: We have a few events coming up! P2Pv from NSCA (Sept. 22-23), the SYNNEX LAVNCH Days (next up, a COLLABSolv Day on Oct. 8), Futuresource Consulting’s Audio Collaborative 2020 (Nov. 4-5) — we hope to see you there!

Have a great rest of the week!

— Steph Beckett

COLUMNS

+ World’s Largest Digital Camera Snaps 3200-Megapixel Images [Bob Snyder]

It’s an image so large it would take 378 4K ultra-high-definition TV screens to display. The resolution is so high you could see the dimples’ texture on a golf ball even if it was 24 kilometers away. This month, a lab at Stanford University, operating on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science, snapped the largest photo ever taken in a single shot, the first 3200-megapixel image. The SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory built an out-of-this-world array of imaging sensors as their contribution of a camera for the new Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile.

+ Surge in Corporate Video Use Is Fueling Growth in Entry Level Professional Video Products [Chris Evans]

The challenge for many businesses to facilitate home working at scale has proven to be a major catalyst in making video an everyday business tool. This has been one of the most significant operational and cultural changes businesses have faced in decades and has proven to be a fast-track education for many in the benefits of using video. Now that more companies than ever before have opened their eyes to the potential for video to be used to save time and money, it is encouraging many organizations to reevaluate how to use video technologies more prominently in their longer term strategy for success.
