Hello from virtual event city! At least doesn’t that feel like where we’re all living? Everywhere I turn, there is another ~exclusive event~ someone or some company is hosting to sell their products or get the word out or help us adjust to the n*w n*rmal. (I’m censoring it because I’m tired of writing about it.)
But let’s take a second to think about how quickly said manufacturers and organizations are turning around these events. To obtain similar leads and necessary information that they’d get from a trade show, but getting it from an event they have turned around in two weeks? I respect it! Virtual events are a lot less expensive — no need to ship pallets upon pallets of stuff over to a different location — but do we think this is actually going to change the face of the way we do business?
I … doubt it. I don’t want to get rid of trade shows, and I doubt most people do either, so while right now it’s a bit of savings on what is usually a considerable expense, we’ll jump at the chance to spend it again once we’re out of captivity. But that’s just my (a relatively new person to the industry with 0 credentials other than spending my days reading/writing/editing AV industry news) opinion.
Anyway — in this issue, we are back at it again with the ITIL/ITSM talk and how we can learn from the IT industry! Christopher Gillespie’s words, not mine. No one fight me, please. We also have an interview with Almo’s Sam Taylor where he answers questions he didn’t have time to during InfoComm 2020 Connected and plenty of product news to keep you company.
Bye!
